A fire hazard is one of the last things I think of when it comes to water safety. In fact, on a boat, a fire is probably twice as low on the list of fears as a shark attack, which might not ever cross my mind unless someone aboard makes a sorry joke by humming those almost obligatory two notes from Jaws. After watching this, however, I likely will re-think my worries the next time I make the awkward hop/climb onto a water vessel.
A Kiwi skipper found himself in a pickle when his engine died in the middle of a lake, and instead of restarting as he expected when he turned the ignition, it caught fire. If I found myself on a small burning vehicle sitting atop millions of gallons of water, I cant help but wonder if I would mutter “What are the chances?” while abandoning ship as this sailor did. Because there were ‘two big tanks of gas’ to fuel the fire, there was nothing anybody could do but watch the show and wait for the sad ending.
Until some other boaters got a little resourceful..

This is cool, Caps.
ReplyDeleteThat situation was a win / win for everybody. The boat-owner got his fire put out and the other boat owners got to do really cool skids in the water over and over!
